NMDC is India's single largest iron ore producer. NMDC is operating four Iron Ore mechanized mines viz., Bailadila Iron Ore Mines – Kirandul Complex (Dep-14, 14 NMZ, 11B & 11C), Bailadila Iron Ore Mine – Bacheli Complex (Dep-5,10 & 11A) in the Chhattisgarh State, Donimalai Iron Ore Mine and Kumaraswamy Iron Ore Mine in the Karnataka State.
Other than Iron Ore, NMDC is the only organised producer of diamond in India from its Majhgawan mine at Panna, Madhya Pradesh.
Bailadila Range of mines is situated in the southern tip of Chhattisgarh in Dantewada District surrounded by Orissa in Eastern side, Andhra Pradesh in Southern side, Maharastra in Western side. It consists of 14 mountains with a distance covering about 50 Kms perimeter. Its Geographical location is between latitude 18 degree 32’32”N to 19 degree 36’5”N and longitude 81 degree 13’0”E to 81 degree 14’30”E. It can be reached from Vishakhapatnam by train (471 Kms) and also by road from Raipur(430 Kms) and Hyderabad(600 Kms).
“BAILADILA” literally means the hump of an Ox. The range of hills derives their names from the shape of hills , which is like the hump of an Ox. Bailadila-14&11C mines are the first large scale open cast mechanised iron ore mines in India for which DPR was prepared by NMDC. The mines has the distinction of having unique down-the-hill conveyor system passing through a tunnel to transport iron ore from crushing plant to processing plant.
To emerge as a global Environment friendly Mining Organization and also as a quality Steel producer with a positive thrust on Social Development.
To maintain its leadership as the largest iron ore producer in India, while establishing itself as a quality steel producer and expanding business by acquiring and operating various iron ore, coal and other mineral assets in India and abroad, rendering optimum satisfaction to all its stake holders.
Deposit-14 is the oldest Mining Project of NMDC, which was commissioned in the year 1968. This Iron Ore deposit is located at the southern extremity of the eastern ridge of Bailadila range.
The 11C Project (14 NMZ + 11C Part) was commissioned in 1988. It is about 2 km away in the northern direction of Deposit-14 on the eastern limb of Bailadila.
The Deposit-11B is the central Deposit of the 11 mining lease, lying in between Deposit-11A and Deposit-11C. It is the most recently developed Iron Ore Project of NMDC, which was commissioned in the year 2015.
